101 Things in 1001 Days

This year has been a slow starting year for me. I have taken a lot of time recently to just hibernate, recuperate, and reflect on quite a few things in my life. I’m slowly dragging myself back to the land of the living and I figured a good way to get me motivated was to create a new bucket list. Because let’s get real, I love me some lists. The last few years I was completing my first 101 Things in 1,001 Days Challenge. It ran from May 2015 to Jan 2018. It’s kind of amazing to look back at that original list now and see how much my priorities and goals have changed since then. While some of those items are carrying over to my new list, I definitely wanted to branch out a little more.

Start Date: April 1, 2018

End Date: December 27, 2020

Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway

Feel the Fear, Do It Anyways

Let me be honest, I have not been doing too good at keeping up with my reading schedule this year. I’m still having trouble getting out of my habit of reading a book half way through before moving on to another book. With that said, I did want to share one book that I have actually completed, Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers.

I really enjoyed this book and learned quite a bit from it. One of my biggest failures has always been letting fear or worry keep me from doing things that interest me or even challenge me. The fear of failure has kept me from doing so many things in my life which automatically made me fail. But I rationalized that failure by opting out was far better than trying and falling flat on my face. Definitely not the truth.

Feel the Fear

After finishing this book, I came away with two major points that were extremely relevant to me. One was that all fears are primarily based on the idea that I cannot handle the outcome. While yes the outcome may suck, cause me pain, or make me cry the truth is that I can and will handle it to the best of my abilities. I could lose my job, but I would find a way to handle it. I may have to file bankruptcy if I can’t find a new job, but I would find a way to handle it. I will one day lose my loved ones, but I will find a way to handle it. And I can attest from my health coach training that the mind is very powerful. If you constantly tell yourself that you can NOT handle something, then you will inevitably fall apart and not be able handle it. But if you tell yourself that you CAN handle it, you might be surprised at the difference. Mindset really is everything.

Mindset is Everything

The second take away was that there is no ONE right way or wrong way and that my failures can hold something of value. One of the examples from the book was a man who walked away from an Ivy League law school after two years to pursue a degree in psychology. His father thought it was a mistake and sulked on the time and money spent on those two years. However, the man did end up using some of what he learned at law school when he opened his own psychology practice and he still has many great friends from his time at law school. But most importantly, he’ll never look back and wonder “What If”. He knows with the at most certainty that he would not have enjoyed being a lawyer. He did not regret the first path he chose. He enjoyed the experiences it brought and then moved onto another path. Life can be enjoyed much more if you’re choosing between Path A and Path B instead of the Right Path versus the Wrong Path.

101 Things in 1,001 Days ~June Recap

My 101 in 1001

I use to do monthly updates on here for my 101 Things list, but I found I just wasn’t marking enough off items off every month to make it actually worth writing about. I think from now on I’ll try to do either every other month or at least quarterly. I’ve also realized that my 1,001 day is up in January. So that gives me 6 months to start marking more items off. We shall see!!

Becoming the Woman God Wants Me to Be
Becoming the Woman God Wants Me to Be

First off, I’ve completely finished 2 more books from my list of 40 books. I’m in the middle of several books, but I seem to have readers adhd or something. I get too bored too quickly and rarely finish a book.

Second Time Around

I also managed to have my family go a whole week without eating out, at all. This may seem like a small thing to some people, but it was really huge for my family. As I mentioned in an earlier post, my husband and I just finished Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. We are really focusing on our finances and we weren’t surprised at all at the amount of money we spent on eating out. Thanks to better meal planning and several freezer meals from Wildtree, I was finally able to mark this goal off my list!

The last item that I get to mark off is a weekend trip with my husband. While we didn’t have our mountain cabin getaway, we were able to have some time alone. My mother was gracious enough to keep the kids for the weekend while I drove down to Biloxi. My husband was down there for several weeks for business. We spent some time on the beach in Biloxi and then drove down to spend the day in New Orleans. We had such a great time. I really can’t say the last time I felt so relaxed and stress free. I will definitely work on making these small getaways more of a priority.
